Since October 1989, German-American Heritage Month has been sponsored in the Ohio Valley by the German-American Citizens’ League, which was founded in 1895. The month is centered around October 6th, which was the day in 1683 when the first permanent German settlement was established in Germantown, Pennsylvania.  October is also Family History Month.

 

October 3 & 10 & 17 & 24 & 31, 2010 - (Sundays) - Visit the German Heritage Museum (West Fork Park in Green Township at 4764 West Fork Road, located off North Bend Road in Monfort Heights) (phone museum on this day only after 1:00 p.m. at 598-5732 for directions if needed)  from 1 to 5 p.m.

 

October 2, 2010 - (Saturday) - Downtown Public Library of Cincinnati & Hamilton County (8th & Vine Streets) - Annual Genealogy Fair with various groups including the Germany Genealogy Interest Group where you can ask the experts German Genealogy questions and trace your German roots - 10:00 to 4:00 p.m.

 

October 3, 2010 - (Sunday) - German American Heritage Museum (West Fork Park in Green Township at 4764 West Fork Road, located off North Bend Road in Monfort Heights) (phone museum on this day only after 1:00 p.m. at 598-5732 for directions if needed) – “Oldenburg, Indiana: The Architecture of the Village of Spires”- Presented by William L. Selm (Architectural Historian, Indiana University-Purdue University) - 2:00 p.m.

 

October 4, 2010 - (Monday) - Pleasant Ridge Public Library (6233 Montgomery Road) “Reading Old German Script in Genealogical Records - Presented by Kenny Burck and/or Deb Cyprych of the Hamilton County Genealogical Society every Monday in October - 6:30 p.m .

 

October 6, 2010 - (Wednesday) - Northern Kentucky University (Otto Budig Theater, located at the University Center on the NKU campus), sponsored by the Department of World Languages and Literatures, For parking information go to http://parking.nku.edu/visit.php,  (For further information call 859-572-7650) - A Tri-State German-American Day Program on “German Immigration, Settlement and Influences in the Tri-State” - Presented by Dr. Don Heinrich Tolzmann (President of the German-American Citizens’ League of Greater Cincinnati and Curator of the German Heritage Museum) - 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

October 14, 2010 - (Thursday) - Kenton County, KY Public Library (5th & Scott Streets in Covington, KY) - “Tracing Your German Genealogy” Presented by Kenny R. Burck (President of the Hamilton County Genealogical Society) - 6:30 p.m.
